Lake Trasimeno is the fourth largest lake in Italy and the largest in central Italy. Its shores are dotted with medieval villages, olive groves and reed beds, and there are three islands on the lake. In 217 BC Hannibal defeated the Romans here in the famous Battle of Lake Trasimene. Today it is the perfect place for a relaxing day of boat trips, walks and lake fish.
What to see on Lake Trasimeno
- Castiglione del Lago, a village on a promontory with the Rocca del Leone fortress and Palazzo della Corgna.
- Passignano sul Trasimeno, with its lakeside promenade and old town on the water.
