Cortona is one of the oldest towns in Tuscany: of Etruscan origin and clinging to a hillside, it looks out over the Valdichiana and Lake Trasimeno. Steep stone streets, lively squares, shops and endless views have made it famous worldwide, partly thanks to the book and film “Under the Tuscan Sun”.
What to see in Cortona
- Piazza della Repubblica and the Town Hall, whose steps are a favourite meeting place for locals and visitors.
- MAEC, the Museum of the Etruscan Academy and the City of Cortona, with the famous Etruscan bronze lamp.
- Diocesan Museum, with Fra Angelico’s Annunciation and works by Luca Signorelli, who was born in Cortona.
